Biography

Miha Firšt studied at the music academies in Ljubljana, Graz, and Zagreb. He is the principal double bassist of Camerata Sinfonica Austria and a member of several active chamber ensembles, including Trio Firšt, Salzmusique, Projekt 212, and Ljubljana Soloists. He regularly collaborates on opera productions with the Slovenian Chamber Music Theatre and performs as a chamber musician at the Sonc Festival, Ljubljana Jazz Festival, and Festival Ljubljana. He also occasionally collaborates with the orchestra of the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet in Ljubljana and the Zagreb Philharmonic.
From 2016 to 2019, he served as the principal double bassist of the Salzburg Philharmonic and previously performed with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Soloists, and all professional Slovenian orchestras. As a soloist, he has performed with the Ljubljana Soloists and the Celje String Orchestra, where he has been a member for twenty years.

In 2019, he received the Celje Stars Award for outstanding achievements in the field of culture.


Teaching work
He taught at music schools in Celje (2012-2018), Slovenske Konjice (2016-2018), Ljubljana (2022-2023), and Škofja Loka (2021-2023). His students in double bass and chamber music have won gold awards and first prizes at the national Temsig competition and international competitions. He is the author of numerous arrangements and didactic music materials. He is the initiator and coordinator of the educational program Ambassador of Culture, author of a series of essays on cultural and artistic education, and author of lectures on media literacy and critical processing of information. He has also lectured at the University of the Third Age in Celje.

Theater work
He made his theatre debut with a role in the musical Love for 17.50 Dollars, based on the works of Charles Bukowski. In 2018, he premiered the iconic monodrama The Double Bass by Patrick Süskind, which received rave reviews from critics and ran for over ten performances across Slovenia. Currently, he performs in his own monodrama Comedy About Art, in which he also composed Eternal Composition – the longest piece of music in the world. He’s also a producer for music-theatre performances such as Musical Kure?!, The Little Man, The Terrifying Beethoven, and Date with Slovenian Composers.


Producer
Miha Firšt is the director and artistic leader of the music programs at Hiša Kulture Celje, the central non-governmental cultural institution in the region. He is also the executive producer of the musical Veronika Deseniška, the most prominent cultural production in Celje in recent decades.
